Tennis player Rafael Nadal is considered the best Spanish athlete in history, according to a poll by the daily Marca, which was attended by 60,000 people.

Nadal has accumulated half of the options “internet users”, imposing the 56.6 percent of the vote. In second place came the former cyclist Miguel Indurain (13.2 percent of the vote), while third place went to football player Xavi Hernandez (12.3 percent of the vote).

Runners were F1 driver Fernando Alonso (5.4%), former golfer Severiano Ballesteros (4.8%), basketball player Pau Gasol (4.5%) and former rider Angel Nieto (3, 2%).

Rafael Nadal, aged 25, won Sunday for the sixth time at Roland Garros tournament, which is tenth in career Grand Slam tournament. Nadal has the record of a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing, three Davis Cup trophies and 46 individual titles.
